The 2025 World Championship will be Katrine Lunde’s final tournament for Norway. Twenty-three years after making her national team debut, the goalkeeper hopes to finish her remarkable international career with one last championship gold.
No handball player, man or woman, has won more titles than Katrine Lunde. Over the course of her career, she has collected five Olympic medals (three gold), six World Championship medals (two gold), and nine European Championship medals (seven gold).
The legendary goalkeeper has now announced that the upcoming World Championship will be her last. There, she will try to add yet another medal to her extraordinary résumé.
– After careful consideration, I have decided that the 2025 World Championship will be my last tournament with the Norwegian national team. My goal and my hope is to help make my final championship unforgettable, she said.
Although the World Championship will be her final major tournament for Norway, the 45-year-old is not closing the door on playing a few more international matches next spring.
– I haven’t played my last handball match. If the coaching staff wants me, I’ve said that I’ll be available in the spring of 2026, but not for another championship.
