The last two World Championship gold medals have gone to Denmark. Now, Croatia stands on the other side, looking to stop a historic third consecutive title.
– I think we will destroy them tomorrow, said Danish national team player Henrik Møllgaard on Saturday to TV2.
The last time the two teams met, Denmark convincingly won 37–22. In Denmark’s most recent final, they claimed victory with a 39–26 win against Germany at the Olympics in Paris. Head coach Nicolaj Jacobsen has built an unprecedented powerhouse, steering the team toward a historic third straight World Championship gold.
The last time Croatia played in a World Championship final was in 2009. Their most recent gold came in 2003. Since then, the team has lost five consecutive finals, and the confident Danes spoke to TV2 on Saturday.
– I think we will destroy them tomorrow. Croatia brings strength and physicality, but I just believe our speed will crush them. I think we will be almost as dominant as we have been throughout the rest of the tournament, said Henrik Møllgaard.
The statement has now reached Croatian media, which is criticizing Møllgaard. The news site 24Sata wrote the headline:
“Arrogant statement from an experienced Dane: We will destroy Croatia in the final.”
