Huge interest in Denmark for World Cup final

Denmark completed a perfect World Cup efffort in Herning in Oslo. The success created a true buzz for the popular red and white national team, including a thorough TV coverage. More than 2,1 million people tuned in for the final Sunday evening.

Denmark won the gold medal in 2019, 2021 and 2023 and remained on top in the 2025 World Cup edition. Meanwhile, the interest among supporters and regular sports viewers was kept on a high via broadcast by two channels, DR and TV2.

Both channels presented live action from the final and 2,115,540 viewers followed, according to the federation website. In other words, 91.7 percent of all televisions in Denmark turned on during the match showed handball.

– These are just wild numbers that show exactly what great sporting experiences can do. They bring us together across age, background and political affiliation. Give us something that we can all be proud of and follow enthusiastically, said Heino Knudsen, CEO of DanskHåndbold to the federation webpage.

All in all, Denmark’s matches in the World Cup had an average of 1,366,000 viewers.
