France undisturbed by Austria

France became the first team to reach the Main Round with maximum points. Austria trailed narrowly for a long way, but the favorite played with determination until 35–27.

A few hours before the third group game, France had to announce that Samir Bellahcene’s World Championship is over, because of a thigh injury during training.

Remi Desbonnet started between the posts when France faced Austria with two points for the Main Round up for grabs.

Dika Mem made a comeback in the starting lineup and found the net with his first shot. The blue team had the capacity pull away already in the beginning and Dylan Nahi provided power shots to entertain lead.

Austria still kept within striking distance, fueled by Sebastian Frommel with an energetic half on the left wing.

France had to use a patient approach to get pass the solid defense and it wasn’t until mid-second half that the reigning European champion could create a significant gap.

Austria might pose a threat to several opponents in the next stage. France passed the first serious adversary with ease towards the end, seven against six just allowed for opportunities in the empty net.

Thibaud Briet who has brought a convincing shape to the championship scored xxx goals in a glowing distance performance. Combined with Mem and Dylan Nahi there was always an option from a good angle for France.

France–Austria 35–27 (19–15)
