Croatia found themselves trailing and had to chase much of the match against Hungary. When they finally equalized, Hungary pulled ahead again. But Croatia kept fighting back. Hungary led by four goals with just over five minutes remaining. Croatia then made an incredible comeback, scoring the last five goals of the match. The final score was 31–30, with Croatia scoring the winning goal with less than two seconds left on the clock.
France also secured a semifinal spot after Luka Karabatic scored the decisive goal. The referees had to use video review to ensure the goal was valid. The clock showed 29:59.7, meaning the three tenths of a second crushed Egypt’s dreams of reaching the semifinals.
