Denmark’s Hoxer misses olympics – Lindberg replaces him

Mads Hoxer has suffered an ankle injury and will miss the Olympics in Paris. Instead, 42-year-old Hans Lindberg will take his spot, marking his third Olympics.

During Denmark’s first training session of their national team camp, Mads Hoxer sustained an ankle injury, forcing him to withdraw from the Olympic squad.

– Mads has shown promise both at right back and right wing, and he was expected to play a crucial role at the Olympics, potentially alongside two left-handed players in the backline. Unfortunately, losing him leaves us with one less option at the moment, said national coach Nikolaj Jacobsen in a press release.

Instead, Hans Lindberg will replace him.

– I am just sad. It has always been a dream to play in the Olympics. And it could have been the icing on the cake for this season. But it is what it is, says Mads Hoxer.

Hans Lindberg has had an incredibly season with Füsche Berlin, scoring 198 goals in the Bundesliga and being named the best right wing in Europe.

– It means a lot, of course. It has been one of my major goals. Initially, I wasn’t selected, which was really disappointing for me, but I’m naturally happy to get the chance after all, says the 42-year-old to danish TV2.
