Snorri Steinn Gudjonsson agrees on longterm contract with Iceland

Snorri Steinn Guðjónsson will continue his work with Iceland’s men’s national team for several years to come. The federation, HSI confirms his considerable presence with a contract lasting to 2032.

In very recent news, media reports from Iceland indicated that the head coach Guðjónsson and the assistant Arnór Atlason while in negotiations also were approached by other interested parties.

In a major development Iceland clinched the deal and will build on continuity with the World Cup on home ground in 2031 in mind.

– One of the joys of this is looking far ahead. For my part, these are two separate tasks. On the one hand, coaching the A-national team as it is today, this core that has been formed, and on the other hand, trying to expand that core and achieve success in these tournaments that are ahead, Gudjonsson comments in an interview with RUV.

Iceland also sets sights for taking part in the Olympic tournaments 2028 and 2032, with the same coaching duo in charge, Looking to the Los Angeles adventure, top seven in the World Cup in January will advance to the qualifiers.

– I think the top eight would probably be enough. History tells us that. I think we just need to wait and see as January goes on, which players are healthy and whether our key players are all in top condition, Gudjonsson tells RUV.
