Samir Bellahcene won´t be seen in the jersey of France moving forward. In an interview with the federation, FFHB the 29-year-old explains his decision.
After a two-year adventure in Bundesliga (THW Kiel and TVB Stuttgart) Bellahcene recently transferred to Bucharest and joined Dinamo. A move that also plays in part in his reasoning.
– I thought a lot about it this summer. My arrival in Bucharest reinforced this choice: I found a stable environment, a lifestyle that suits me, on and off the pitch. It reminds me of what I experienced in Dunkerque, where I performed best.
– It’s a carefully considered decision, following on from the last training camp last May. For me, it’s the right choice, even though I loved spending two years with the French national team, Bellahcene says on the federation website.
The goalkeeper participated in the recent World Cup but had to abandon the championship after an injury in group stage.
– Last year was very complicated, both mentally and physically. The aftermath of the Olympics, the quick return to club training, personal worries… all of that took its toll. At the World Cup, I got injured quickly, but despite that, the adventure was still great. I’m happy that the team won a medal. It’s also what pushed me to look for a more suitable, less hectic schedule, he says to FFHB.
