Jota Gonzalez next in charge of Poland?

Poland picks their new national coach from a Champions League side. Jota Gonzalez will soon take over the men’s team trying to bounce back from a disappointing World Cup result, according to TVP.

For the first time in eight years Poland had to make do with the President’s cup in the WCh evacuation. Winning the separate consolation tournament wasn’t enough to maintain Marcin Lijewski´s leading position.

The next person in charge will be the 53-year-old, Valladolid born Jota Gonzalez, writes TVP.

Gonzalez has been in charge of SL Benfica since 2023, after a handful of year as a assistant to Raul Gonzalez in Paris Saint-Germain.

Poland has put interim coach Michal Sikorsky by the bench during the Euro 2026 qualifying against Portugal during the ongoing week.

A comment about the capacity of the prospective new coach gives increased positivity for the Poland choice.

– I can only talk about him in superlatives. He is an incredible workaholic. He can work a lot. 12, 16 or 18 hours – it makes no difference. He demands a lot from himself. He sets himself high goals. When he does something, he doesn’t want to do it 100 percent, but 120 percent, says Kielce coach Talant Dujshebaev to TVP.
