Iceland first to qualify for Euro 2026

As the first nation, Iceland passed through the qualification for Euro 2026. Germany got revenge on Austria and stand on the brink to follow the championship path.

Out of only two qualifying games, the loudest cheer was likely heard in Reykjavik. Iceland completed a four match winning run with the super experienced keeper Björgvin Gustavsson in brilliant shape. The broad attacking mode was more than enough to run away from Greece, who stands equal on points with Georgia and Bosnia&Herzegovina.

Germany made it three wins out of far with a convincing 31–26 return game versus Austria. Marko Grgic and Julian Köster put pressure on the Austrian defense and the home team controlled the second half with a 3–0-sprint to start with.

– We have almost booked our ticket to the EHF EURO, but of course we will have to show two serious performances in the last two rounds at Switzerland and against Türkiye to remain on top of the group, said the coach Alfred Gislason to eurohandball.com.
