When starting the European Championship qualifiers in November, Montenegro will have a new coach by the bench. Didier Dinart takes over the team, according to the federation (RSCG).
As a young handball nation, Montenegro has only been in business for 18 years. With nine coaches in nine championships the best results so far is the eleventh place in Euro 2022 and the team failed to qualify for the last World Championship.
Dinart sets a new course after three years with the French selection (2017 to 2020) and two seasons in charge of Saudi Arabia. The 47-year-old defensive specialist will continue to work with the Starligue club US Ivry while preparing Montenegro for the national games.
– This appointment as head of the Montenegrin team is a great source of pride for me. Being a coach at international level and participating in confrontations of this magnitude are always unique and enriching adventures, says Dinart to Handnews after the federation presented the job news.
Dinart replaces Vlado Sola who coached Montenegro from the early months of 2023. In competition with Hungary, Slovakia and Finland Montenegro aims to be group winner, runner-up or one of the best four third-placed teams to secure a spot in Euro 2026.
