Croatia won 28–24 against Switzerland and is now firmly in the hunt for a semifinal spot.
It took a long time before Luka Cindrić scored Croatia’s first goal—nine minutes, to be exact. By that time, Switzerland had already scored four. But the runners-up gradually worked their way into the game, not only closing the gap but also pulling ahead. At halftime, Croatia led 13–11.
In the second half, the teams stayed neck and neck. Croatia remained in control, but the goals were exchanged back and forth. Switzerland, however, never got close enough to truly threaten. Instead, Croatia pulled away and secured a 28–24 victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The result means that four teams in Group II now all have four points after the first two matches of the main round: Iceland, Sweden, Slovenia, and Croatia.
Switzerland–Croatia 24–28 (11–13)
