Uplifting news for Iceland – Elvar Örn Jónsson might make it to Euro premiere

Iceland´s squad to the European Championship has a lot of offensive quality. The defense is a different story – the coach Snorri Stein Gudjonsson is surely crossing his fingers for Elvar Örn Jonsson´s recovery after injury.

– We are hoping that I will be ready for the first game, says Jonsson in an interview with RUV.

Jonsson, representing MT Melsungen in Bundesliga has been focusing on rehabilitation for almost a month. An abdominal muscle injury puts him very much in doubt when it comes to playing from the start of Euro 2024.

Though after a painful period, Jonsson have a positive view of fulfilling his role in the national team.

– It’s quite stressful, I admit it. Especially when it first happened, I panicked a bit. So I have been talking to the medical team in Iceland and we are quite optimistic for the tournament. We just need to be careful and not go too fast because then it could happen again, says Jonsson to RUV.

Iceland is ready to face Serbia, Montenegro and Hungary in the opening stage of the championship.
