Velimir Petkovic ready for Zagreb assignment

RK Zagreb has completed another coach change. Now it’s up to Velimir Petkovic to stabilize the CL contender for the rest of the 2024/25 season.

Zagreb´s club management dismissed Andrija Nikolic and his assistant Ivan Cupic after one win in seven international games. The solution seems in coherence with club history, Zagreb has had eight coaches in the last half-decade with number nine entering the project.

Petkovic comes with Bundesliga experience, two EHF cup titles and a russian excursion (CSKA Moscow and the national team) as the latest jobs on the record.

– For me, Zagreb has always been a European giant, regardless of the current situation in the table. I am aware that expectations are high. I had a large number of players who passed through here, so I don’t come to a new environment, I was often in Zagreb, often in the stands, I used to have good relations with all the coaches, I have contact with Bozidar Jovic all the time.

– I watched the team’s performances, I believe that I analyzed it well and that I can bring something of my own to improve things, says Petkovic to the club webpage.

Petkovic´s first training session with his new team took place Wednesday evening. Zagreb has agreed on a contract over 2026 with the 68-year-old coach.
