The EHF Champions League is back – and back with a bang. Kielce and Veszprém delivered huge drama as the Polish side managed to snatch a 36–35 win. The Dujshebaev brothers were at the center of the victory, combining for ten goals.
It was a real goal fest in Poland. The 17–19 halftime score was followed by an equally high-scoring second half. Veszprém extended their lead early in the half and, with a four-goal margin, it looked like they were pulling away.
But then, as many times before, the Spanish brothers turned it up a notch. With great help from Szymon Sićko in particular, they brought Kielce back into the game.
The last ten minutes were a tight battle with just one goal separating the teams. Kielce took the lead from the penalty spot in the final second despite Veszprém having a numerical advantage. The Hungarian side got a chance to equalize, but a long-range effort — arguably a questionable shot selection, was fired wide.
Three other games were played in the Champions League. Gidsel led Magdeburg to a 27–21 away win over București. Nantes completely ran over Sporting at home, winning 38–27. Wisła Płock rounded out yesterday’s games by defeating Pelister 28–25.
