Two red cards, eleven two-minute suspensions and a last-second equaliser. Last night’s EHF Champions League clash had almost everything as Pick Szeged and Sporting played out a 35-35 draw.
Within the first nine minutes, Sporting’s Christian Moga had already picked up his second two-minute suspension, setting the tone for what was to come. Both teams brought plenty of physicality from the start, with fierce duels all over the court.
There were six suspensions in the first half, but things really heated up after the break. Moga was sent off just a minute into the second half after receiving his third two-minute suspension. Only a few minutes later, it was Pick Szeged’s turn to lose a player as Sebastian Frimmel received a direct red card.
On the scoreboard, the teams remained neck and neck. Sporting gained a small advantage midway through the second half as Martim Costa scored twice during a 4-0 run. However, Pick Szeged responded with a run of their own, led by Mario Sostaric.
Heading into the final minute, the score was still level. Sporting took the lead with just seconds remaining, but Pick Szeged had time for one final attack. Dmytro Horiha found the net with the last throw of the game, rescuing a point for the Hungarian side in the dying seconds.
