Füchse Berlin practically secured their place in the main round with a 36–33 away win against Porto. The star of the show was left wing Tim Freihoffer, who delivered an incredible 15-goal performance.
Porto needed a win to keep their hopes of advancing alive, and with the home crowd behind them, the Portuguese side gave it everything. Led by Vasco Costa in attack, the hosts took control of the game and looked to be in a strong position.
Porto held the lead well into the second half, but Berlin stepped up a gear after the break. Freihoffer, who had already found the net seven times in the first half, continued to score at will.
Matthias Gidsel also joined the scoring party, and together the duo turned the game around to put Berlin in front. Porto fought until the final whistle, but ultimately, the German side’s attacking firepower proved too much to handle.
Freihoffer finished with an astonishing 15 goals, powering Berlin to victory and putting them in a strong position to secure a top-two finish in the group phase.
