Aalborg Håndbold made a strong start to their Champions League season with a 32–28 victory over Hungarian giants Veszprém.
The Danish champions, who also eliminated Veszprém in last season’s quarter-finals, once again proved difficult to break down on home court. Goalkeeper Fabian Norsten delivered an outstanding performance with 18 saves – around 40% efficiency – earning him the award as Player of the Match.
Veszprém’s Swedish goalkeeper Mikael Appelgren also made an impact after coming off the bench, registering eight saves at close to 28%.
Thomas Arnoldsen led Aalborg’s scoring with six goals, while Mads Hoxer, Felix Möller and Buster Juul added five each. For Veszprém, Nedim Remili top-scored with eight goals, followed by Bjarki Mar Elisson with six.
