Doping controversy over – Martins back in play

Miguel Martins’ doping accusation came as a shock. Now, the Portuguese player’s suspension is being lifted. Martins’ B-sample tested negative, according to the International Testing Agency (ITA).

The 27-year-old has not played handball since before the World Championship, and the incident is said to have taken place when Martins represented Pick Szeged during the 2024 European Championship.

Martins’ A-sample had shown traces of “external testosterone,” leading to his provisional suspension.

Now, the Aalborg player is cleared with immediate effect, meaning he could return for this weekend’s Final Four in Denmark. However, the club states that he is not currently part of their plans, despite being eligible to play.
