Aymeric Minne: “I’d love to play alongside Gidsel”

Aymeric Minne has played the best handball of his career this fall. In a long interview with HandNews, the 27-year-old discussed his season and his future in the Bundesliga.
– I hope to experience a different kind of passion in Germany, said Minne to HandNews.

Minne has been unstoppable in this season’s Champions League campaign, scoring 53 goals from 57 shots. Much thanks to him, Nantes can head into the World Championship break joint top with PSG, for the first time in history.

– In previous years, it wasn’t necessarily the direct matchups that cost us the title, but games against teams like Limoges, Aix, or Toulouse, where we dropped points. This season, we’ve been consistent, even after major Champions League or league clashes, said the 27-year-old, who was dropped from the Euro squad earlier this year.

In the Champions League, Nantes is second in Group B and has a great opportunity to go directly to the quarter-finals, with four matches left to play.

Minne is under contract with Nantes until the summer of 2026, with a buyout clause in 2025. Media reports suggest he already has a verbal agreement with SG Flensburg-Handewitt. While Flensburg is not directly mentioned, Minne is open about leaving France and Nantes for the Bundesliga.

– I came here at 22, and I’ll leave at 29. I’ve grown here, both personally and professionally. I hope to experience a different kind of passion in Germany, Minne told HandNews.

One player Flensburg has also been reported to be interested in is Danish superstar Mathias Gidsel, and Minne is quick to point out that he would love to play alongside him.

– I’d love to play alongside Mathias Gidsel, just to observe his routine, preparation, and approach to duels. He’s so impressive in everything he does.
