Lasse Andersson was unstoppable. The Füchse Berlin star delivered a stunning performance in last night’s Champions League Last 16 clash, scoring 13 goals to lead his team to victory against Kielce.
For a long stretch, it seemed as though Magdeburg would return to Germany with a comfortable lead. Facing Dinamo București, the Bundesliga side surged ahead 6–14 after just 20 minutes, largely thanks to Felix Claar, who had already recorded four goals and four assists by that point.
However, the Romanian side found their way back into the match. Slowly but surely, they chipped away at Magdeburg’s lead, and with just over a minute remaining, the gap had narrowed to three goals. The German team managed to add one more to their tally, sealing a 26–30 victory.
– We fought against a very good team, and we lost because we made so many mistakes in the first minutes of the game. Magdeburg now have a four-goal lead, but I believe in us and what we can do away, said Dinamo București’s Miklós Rosta in an interview with EHF’s website after the match.
Andersson the Hero in Poland
In Poland, it was a Danish player who stole the spotlight. Lasse Andersson was in a league of his own, netting 13 goals from 17 attempts against Kielce. Yet for much of the game, the score remained tight.
With 45 minutes played, the teams were level at 21–21. Then, Füchse Berlin shifted into another gear, winning the next five-minute stretch 5–1. Kielce had no response, and the German side cruised to a 27–33 victory.
The second leg of both matchups will be played next Wednesday.
