Alec Smit out with ACL injury

Aalborg HB welcomes Füchse Berlin for Champions League action Wednesday evening. In a setback for the home team, Alec Smit is ruled out longtime with a serious knee injury.

Aalborg´s webpage reports the cruel facts after Smit´s incident in a recent league game. After further examination the worst case scenario with an ACL injury was confirmed.

– As soon as I hit the floor in that sequence, I immediately knew that something was wrong. Unfortunately, the scan just confirmed what I feared, and unfortunately it’s not the first time I’ve experienced a cruciate ligament injury, so I know there’s a lot of work ahead before I can get back on the field, Smit says to the club website.

The Dutch international was brought to Aalborg in the autumn after Patrick Wiesmach´s injury. Now the 26-year-old himself will be out of play on the right wing for many months.

– It was incredibly hard to see Alec lying on the floor in pain yesterday, and it hits us all extra hard when a player is hit with such a serious injury for the second time in his career, Aalborg team manager Martin Larsen says to the club webpage.
