Thorir Hergeirsson returns to Iceland

Thorir Hergeirsson became the most winning national coach of all during his successful stint in charge of Norway. After leaving the gilt-edged work, Hergeirsson has been appointed “professional advisor on performance issues”, by the Icelandic national federation (HSI).

HSI announced the new position for the prominent trainer during the weekend, in connection with their yearly handball conference.

”Thorir hardly needs to be introduced to the Icelandic nation, as he has been a coach in Norway for 39 years with great success”, HSI writes on the federation webpage.

Hergeirsson assisted Marit Breivik before he took over Norway in 2009. During his 15 years as head coach, Norway won gold eleven times with a total of 17 medals.

In his new capacity, the 61-year-old will work closely with the respective national coaches to develop handball in Iceland on a part-time basis.
