With just a few matches left, handball fans can expect a dramatic finish in the Bundesliga. Füchse Berlin defeated Eisenach to take top spot in the table.
There were seven games played last night in the Bundesliga. With just six points separating first and sixth, every game is crucial. Four of the top six teams were in action yesterday, with Füchse Berlin, Flensburg and Kiel all winning comfortably. For Magdeburg it wasn’t quite as easy, as they just managed to hold onto a one-goal win against Gummersbach. The win puts them in third, and with two games in hand they have an opportunity to go just one point behind Berlin.
With all the top teams winning, the pressure turns to second-placed Melsungen and fourth-placed Hannover. They face off tonight in what could turn out to be a season defining game. A win for Melsungen would put them tied with Füchse Berlin at the top. For Hannover a win would keep their Champions League dreams alive, while putting them in the driver’s seat for a Europa League spot. The game starts at 20:00.
In the bottom of the table Potsdam finds themselves dead last, with just four points. They took a disappointing three-goal loss to Rhein-Neckar Löwen, having led by three goals in the middle of the second half. Erlangen, who are just two points above relegation, lost a close game at home to Leipzig. Their supporters will feel uneasy with Bietigheim behind them, having three games in hand.
