Smits out indefinitely – will miss the EHF Euros

Kay Smits is one of the most prominent right backs in the world. But now Flensburg will have to play without the dutchman, who will be out indefinitely due to myocarditis.

Kay Smits joined Flensburg from Magdeburg during the summer and has been an important part of the team during the autumn. But now the club announce that they will have to play without the dutchman indefinitely.

The reason is that Smits has been diagnosed with myocarditis. This was confirmed after examinations, that followed some discomfort that Smits had felt.

– We are of course sad that we have to do without Kay, but health is, as always, our top priority and we are glad that we have clarity about the situation, said Flensburg coach Nicolej Krickau about the loss.

– Kay’s diagnosis obviously hits us hard. I’m also particularly sorry for Kay’s loss and therefore for missing the European Championships. However, health always comes first.
