The Rhein-Neckar Löwen transfer saga involving Juri Knorr and Aalborg Håndbold continues. According to Bild, Löwen are now eyeing Knorr’s replacement: 25-year-old olympic silver medalist Luca Witzke from SC DHfK Leipzig.
– Luca has shown, especially at the Olympic Games, better than ever what he is capable of, says sports director Uwe Gensheimer, according to Bild.
Germany’s and Rhein-Neckar Löwen’s biggest star, Juri Knorr, has been rumored to move to Denmark and Aalborg since April. With their starting playmaker leaving, Löwen and Uwe Gensheimer are in urgent need of a replacement before next season.
One player who is, according to Bild, on their wishlist is Luca Witzke.
– Luca has demonstrated, especially at the Olympic Games, better than ever what he is capable of and rightly has an important role in the team. But everyone performed well, not just Luca, said Uwe Gensheimer.
Karsten Günther, managing director at Leipzig, has said that talks about next season will begin soon but that they will fight to keep their playmaker.
– We are discussing what role he will have here, what we can offer, what he wants – and then we’ll see what happens. We always welcome him at SC DHfK.
