SG Flensburg-Handewitt had to fight for their opening Bundesliga win against ThSV Eisenach. Flensburg came away with a 33–31 victory after a strong finish, with Swedish goalkeeper Simon Möller playing an important role.
Flensburg led at half-time, but Eisenach fought their way back after the break. Möller was brought on in goal and made an immediate impact, coming up with several important saves as Flensburg turned the game around.
Flensburg held on in the closing minutes to secure a 33–31 victory.
