Play: SC Magdeburg secure first win over THW Kiel since 2024

SC Magdeburg defeated THW Kiel 32–26 on Wednesday to claim their first win over the record champions since February 2024.

A strong defensive performance laid the foundation for the victory, with Magdeburg holding Kiel to just nine goals in the first half. Matej Mandić made six saves before Dominik Kuzmanović took over and added eight, including three from seven metres.

Omar Ingi Magnusson led the hosts with eleven goals, while Gisli Thorgeir Kristjansson contributed five goals and six assists. For Kiel, Domen Makuc was the standout scorer with nine goals.

Magdeburg raced into an 8–3 lead after 15 minutes and held a 15–9 advantage at half-time. Kiel improved after the break, scoring 17 goals, but could not close the gap as the hosts remained in control.

The result was Kiel’s first defeat of the season, while Magdeburg moved to the top of the table with 12 points from seven matches.
