Obling stays at Gummersbach

With his contract expiring in 2026, there were rumors that Bertram Obling could be on the move. But it is now confirmed that the Danish goalkeeper will remain with VfL Gummersbach, signing an extension until 2028.

Since joining the club in 2024, Obling has been a key part of the Gummersbach squad. This year, Obling and Gummersbach have gotten off to a hot start, currently sitting in fifth place in the Bundesliga.

With his contract running out in 2026, there had been speculation linking Obling with a move to other Bundesliga clubs ahead of next season. However, it is now confirmed that the goalkeeper will stay at Gummersbach with a contract extension through 2028.

– We are very happy and proud that Bertram and his family feel at home with us and have decided to stay beyond this season. We look forward to our future together, said VfL head coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson about the extension.
