Nikola Portner moves on from Magdeburg

Nikola Portner will leave the star-studded squad of SC Magdeburg in the summer. The goalkeepers own request was granted by the champion club to allow the 32-year-old to depart one year prior to his contract expiring.

Magdeburg announces the major news on the club website. Portner will fulfill his fourth season in Bundesliga and Champions League before the Swiss national goalkeeper will be available for another club adventure.

– The years in Magdeburg have been very formative for me and my family. Nevertheless, the time has unfortunately come to say goodbye – a decision that was anything but easy for me. I feel immense gratitude towards the club, the management, and the fans for my time in Magdeburg, Portner says to the club website.

Portner arrived in Magdeburg 2022, having played in France for Montpellier HB and Chambery Savoie HB as his first clubs abroad.

Magdeburg helped him to a second CL title and a league triumph in 2024. Some shocking headlines also occurred during his time in the club, a doping case with a lengthy investigation and Portner out of play was concluded and he could return to sport action from December 2025.

– My time in the green and red colors is not yet over, and together we want to win more titles. I am incredibly excited about that. Magdeburg, SCM, and the fans will always hold a special place in my heart, Portner continues to the club website.
