Dani Baijens returns to Bundesliga in an unexpected move. Even though the playmaker had an ongoing contract with Paris Saint-Germain, Rhein-Neckar Löwen attracted the 26-year-old with a deal.
Baijens leaves PSG after just one season to play in a more familiar league. Between 2017 and 2024 the centre back had four German employers, SG Flensburg-Handewitt, TBV Lemgo, ASV Hamm-Westfalen and HSV Hamburg.
–At PSG, I wasn’t able to play the role I envisioned for myself and the one I needed for my game. In my discussions with the Lions, I immediately felt that they were counting on me, Baijens says to the club website.
In Mannheim Baijens will prepare to fill the role of key player Juri Knorr, departing for Aalborg HB. Löwen also notes that the arrival of the Dutch star makes next season’s squad complete.
– Dani is an explosive, agile player whose greatest strengths lie in one-on-one situations. He’s also just as good at reading a game, has a great understanding of handball, and knows exactly what’s important in the Bundesliga, says Use Gensheimer to the club webpage.
