Minden returns to Bundesliga

The classic club of GWD Minden is back in the premiere division in Germany. Mission accomplished in the last round, getting more points than the rival TV Hüttenberg brought Minden back to Bundesliga where they have been the major part of the handball venture.

Minden was last relegated in the spring of 2023. Some refurbishing was required, the first year in second division contained some struggle and 15th position. In 2024/25 Minden had all signs of a top contender and joins Bergischer HC on the way up.

On match day 34, TV Hüttenberg still had the advantage of a better goal difference but the disappointment was visible when the second ranked team couldn’t keep up with Die Ellen Ludwigshafen in a thrilling finish, 29–27.

The final whistle between Minden and TuS Ferndorf occurred a few minutes earlier. After five goals by Alexander Weck and Philipp Vorlicek Minden just about cleared the bar.

The actions in the sprint minutes of the entire season separated Minden from Hüttenberg, Minden raised from 29–29 finding enough room for two close range goals to maximum points when it was needed the most.

There was also a drama in the lower region of the table, ASV Hamm-Westfalen´s triumph against Tusem Essen wasn’t enough since all four competitors won to keep ASV below the line.
