Mikael Aggefors back on court – for Magdeburg

Mikael Aggefors is getting ready to stand between the posts again. The 39-year-old starts his career again, on the very highest level as SC Magdeburg requires a first class keeper until the end of the season, according to the club webpage.

Magdeburg picks a surprise for the squad final in the final months of 2023/24.

After the announcement that Nikola Portner tested positive for a banned substance and risks a doping suspension, a quick call for reinforcement was dealt with by the German club.

Aggefors has signed for the CL contender until the end June. To Magdeburg’s joy, the late new acquisition can contribute both domestically and internationally.

– It is a fortunate circumstance for us to be able to sign a well-known goalkeeper like Mikael in this difficult phase and in such a short time. In addition, he is eligible to play in all competitions. After the end of the transfer window on February 14th, this is actually almost impossible, says Magdeburg coach Bennet Wiegert to the club website.

Aggefors can make his debut already this weekend, when Magdeburg goes for the title in the Final four of the German cup, DHB-Pokal.

Sergey Hernandez is already in the goalkeeper team when the Swede joins at short notice. Aggefors brings a lot of experience from the national team and club success with Aalborg HB. Since last summer, his handball life has been occupied with goalkeeper coaching in Alingsas HK.
