MT Melsungen bounced back after their surprise loss against Eisenach. This time with an impressive victory against Flensburg–Handetwitt. Much thanks to Nebojša Simic – ending the game with 42 percent in saves.
Melsungen is yet to lose at home.
On Friday Roberto García Parrondo’s team were close with Flensburg for the first 50 minutes, 25–24. But then everything was about one man – Nebojša Simic.
The Macedonian goalkeeper completely closed up shop and threw away the keys. In the last ten minutes, Flensburg failed to score a single goal, while Melsungen scored eight consecutive goals.
– For a long time, it was an even goalkeeper performance. Only at the end did Nebojsa Simic save like crazy. A big compliment to everyone who worked really well in our defensive block and on the half positions. Our defense and the crowd eventually wore down the Flensburg team, said Timo Kastening after the game.
The victory means that Flensburg is now three points behind the top of the table, while Melsungen has created a two-point gap ahead of second-place Hannover-Burgdorf, who have one match less played.
