Reigning champion HB Ludwigburg controlled the action in the first league match of 2024/25. Frisch Auf Göppingen held on for half the game but fell behind after the break and had to accept defeat, 35–28 for Ludwigsburg.
Despite an injury on Kaba Gassama, Ludwigsburg also got good answers from the Supercup win last weekend.
In front of almost 3 000 supporters in the home crowd, the renamed team (previously SG BBM Bietigheim) lay the ground for a successful Bundesliga campaign. There were some ups and downs during the premiere half, but Ludwigsburg still scored 19 times and there were more to come.
Newcomer Johanna Bundsen stood between the posts in the second half with eight saves all in all. Antje Döll shone both in the distance delivery and penalty execution.
The first round is spread out over several days, Ludwigsburg had to start early because of the Champions League matchup in a few days time.
– We won by seven goals. I’m very, very happy with that. Today the two points were the most important thing. We still have to develop one step further, then we’ll have a chance in Odense too, said coach Jacob Vestergaard to the club webpage with both the current and coming game in mind.
