Gummersbach stun Füchse Berlin

Reigning Bundesliga champions Füchse Berlin suffered their second straight defeat on Sunday, going down 34–29 away to Gummersbach.

The hosts had a great start, racing into a 4–0 lead and stretching it to 11–3 midway through the first half. Berlin fought back to within five at the break but never fully recovered.

Kay Smith led Gummersbach’s attack with eight goals, while goalkeeper Bertrand Obling was outstanding. Berlin’s Mathias Gidsel scored 10 goals keeping the game somewhat close. But Berlin ultimately fell 34-29.

The loss leaves Berlin four points behind Magdeburg, who cruised to a 32–23 home win over Stuttgart behind seven goals from Felix Claar. In the day’s other match, Lemgo beat Wetzlar 26–21 away.
