Füchse Berlin are charging toward the Bundesliga title, with Mathias Gidsel scoring 15 goals in yesterday’s top clash against MT Melsungen.
– Now we’ve got a finger on the championship trophy, Mathias Gidsel told Bild.
In front of a sold-out Max-Schmeling-Halle, Füchse Berlin hosted MT Melsungen in a real top match. Both teams came into the game with 50 points, just one point behind league leaders SC Magdeburg.
But the Berliners quickly changed that. The home side steamrolled Melsungen in the second half, and the final score was 37–29.
– Füchse are the best team in the world right now. I haven’t seen any team that could match them this season. We didn’t stand a chance today, said Melsungen’s Timo Kastening to Bild.
Danish superstar Mathias Gidsel also had a strong performance. The right back scored 15 goals in total and has now tallied 249 goals in 30 league matches this season.
– I’m really happy. For the first time in my career, I was a bit nervous beforehand. My girlfriend asked, ‘What’s going on with you?’ This match really meant a lot. Now we’ve got a finger on the championship trophy, Gidsel said to Bild.
The win means Berlin now leads the Bundesliga with three matches left to play — one point ahead of SC Magdeburg and two ahead of Melsungen.
