Emil Jakobsen broke a significant barrier not far into his fifth season in SG Flensburg-Handewitt. Monday evening the left wing passed 1 000 goals for the Bundesliga giant.
Flensburg created an eight goal margin to Hannover-Burgdorf while Jakobsen had his personal reasons to celebrate. In the midst of pulling away, the 8–3-goal on penalty meant Jakobsen reached 1 000 goals in competitive matches for the winning team.
All in all, Jakobsen produced eight goals. Still, it seemed to matter more that Flensburg moved further up the table.
– Of course, it means something to me to have scored my 1,000th goal for the SG. The SG is my club. But what’s even more important to me is that we continue on the path to winning titles beyond the EHF European League, Jakobsen said to the club webpage.
The club history includes some star shining danish players, one of a kind Lars Christiansen is the all-time goal scorer with 3 996 goals. Anders Eggert (2 531) and Lasse Svan Hansen (2 241) might be within reach for Jakobsen with an ongoing contract to 2029.
