It’s coming down to the final game of the season in the world’s best handball league. SC Magdeburg took a huge win last night, defeating Flensburg-Handewitt 35–27. This result puts them one point ahead of Füchse Berlin, who have the chance to reclaim top spot tonight against Gummersbach.
With just two games left in the season, it was a must-win match for Magdeburg if they wanted to keep their title hopes alive. And they delivered. In a great team performance, they comfortably won 35–27. This temporarily puts them ahead of Berlin, who play later tonight.
Magdeburg’s win wasn’t the only good news for them last night. Title contender MT Melsungen dropped a point after a disappointing draw against Lemgo. That result likely ended both their Champions League and title hopes.
In the race for the final European League place, Hannover kept their hopes alive by earning a point against Kiel, especially with Flensburg also losing.
At the bottom of the table, Bietigheim were under pressure, having dropped into the relegation zone in the previous round. But they stepped up big time, crushing Leipzig 34–25 and moving into 15th place, two spots above relegation.
