Dortmund survived scare in Göppingen

Borussia Dortmund allowed Frisch Auf Göppingen to come close but steered away from a scare in a 32–30-triumph. Having lost just a point in four games, Henk Groener´s squad at least gets a few days in the first spot, in fierce competition with HB Ludwigsburg.

Lena Hausherr´s penalty execution and Alicia Langer´s back court force was the vital ingredient to keep Dortmund´s streak of no losses so far in Bundesliga. In the first half Dortmund soon sailed away with four or five goals but the newcomer Frisch Auf Göppingen provided an unexpected push after half-time.

The red card on Deborah Lassource stressed the guests even more, Göppingen reduced the deficit with 30–29 in the score sheet but Dortmund managed to hang on.

– I cannot explain why we gave it away like that in the second half. We had a relatively safe lead and then forgot everything we had agreed on. So Göppingen fought back. In defense, we had big problems keeping the whole thing under control, Henk Groener said to the club webpage.

Dortmund is one point up on HB Ludwigsburg, having played one more game than the reigning champion. The battle of the autumn is scheduled for October 30th in Dortmund´s home ground.
