Crisis in Stuttgart – the club director fires his younger brother

TVB Stuttgart has had a weak start to the season. Now the club director, Jürgen Schweikardt, 44, is taking action and firing the team’s coach – his brother Michael Schweikardt, 41.

Michael Schweikardt joined Stuttgart in the 2022/2023 season and has since led the club to two mid-table finishes. However, this season has started off anything but well.

After ten matches, Stuttgart has only won one. Following the latest loss to Hannover-Burgdorf, 33–20, the club’s management had had enough. The team’s coach, Michael Schweikardt, has now been dismissed.

What stands out in this case is that the club’s director is Michael Schweikardt’s older brother, Jürgen Schweikardt. However, Jürgen’s name is not mentioned anywhere in Stuttgart’s press release.

– The current poor sporting situation has several causes. These cannot solely be blamed on Michael Schweikardt, but with a new head coach, we want to give the team the necessary impetus, says Christian May to the club’s website.
