Confirmed: Kentin Mahé to Vfl Gummersbach

Is was well-known that Kentin Mahé, a part of the French team who won the Euros, would sign to play in the Bundesliga. You just didn’t know when or where. However, he has now signed for VFL Gummersbach. The contract is a three year long deal.
– I’m overjoyed to be part of this journey, which I hope will lead VfL back to where it belongs,’ says the Frenchman on the Gummersbach website.

Kentin Mahé, the 32-year-old playmaker, had been playing for Telekom Veszprém since 2018. Last year, the Hungarian club confirmed that Mahé would leave after the season. Speculation has been rampant since then, but now Gummersbach has confirmed the signing.

– He is a very strong playmaker who will do our team a lot of good. Otherwise, you don’t have to say much about his qualities, his CV speaks for itself, says coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson.

Mahé’s resume is impressive, with two world championship golds, one Olympic gold medal, and a gold medal in the Euros earlier this year. His return to Gummersbach after eleven seasons away comes with high expectations.

– I am pleased that Kentin has decided to join us; it’s a clear sign for the club. His experience will be invaluable to us,’ says the club’s managing director, Christoph Schindler.

–We have a squad that will definitely help us achieve our goals. We are well-staffed in every position in terms of quality, but there is still room for improvement. I believe that not everyone in the squad has fully exploited their potential yet. As the oldest player, I see it as my job to ensure that everyone brings out the best in themselves, says the player.
