Bundesliga: Unwelcome surprise for Füchse Berlin

Füchse Berlin lost even more ground when HSV Hamburg triumphed in the big city duel. Meanwhile, SG Flensburg-Handewitt and SC Magdeburg moved on with steady course in the top positions.

In a huge surprise and setback for the home team, 38 goals wasn’t enough for Füchse Berlin. The riveting drama was decided in the last minute, starting with Hamburg in the lead 38–37.

Danish players had central positions, Lasse Andersson scored twelve times for Berlin and Mathias Gidsel managed ten successful shots. But Gidsel also made the technical fault soon after a timeout that allowed Nicolaj Jørgensen to put the ball in the net for 39–37 making Berlin´s last goal pointless.

Jørgensen, top scorer for Hamburg was the man to trust for the winning shot, Moritz Sauter also committed to the strong offense with eight goals.

Flensburg proved too strong for HC Erlangen, despite all effort from Viggo Kristjansson (ten goals). The first placed team pushed through for a significant gap during the final 15 minutes.

With all other teams in Sunday action scoring 30 plus goals, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and Magdeburg were the exception with defensive success. Sebastian Barthold and Felix Claar made the difference for the guests in the low-key but still exciting affair with 22–24 on the board.

Rhein-Neckar Löwen raced to 38–34 over TVB Stuttgart as Haukur Thrastarson had the game of the season – 14 goals and six assists.
