Bundesliga handball in Munich in the next decade?

Munich wants to up its game as a handball city. A newly launched project brings a men’s team into action in the fourth division – with the aim to reach Bundesliga level, according to Sport Bild.

Earlier, the profile players Dominik Klein and Steffen Weinhold started the venture by the foundation of Munich Handball Association. Bild has further news, as the new team Münchner Panther starts by merging HG München is merging and TuS Fürstenfeldbruck.

Fürstenfeldbruck was relegated to the fourth league, thus that’s where the journey upwards will begin from the autumn. Stefan Weidinger has been appointed coach the team.

– Munich has a powerful appeal – among fans, players, and internationally. The location has the potential to become a permanent Bundesliga address in the long term, says Klein to the paper and mentions the longterm goal.

– We want to have a first-division team by the early to mid-2030s.
