Not only did VfL Gummersbach lose against SC Leipzig. The league game in the weekend also brought two injuries to the team. Teitur Einarsson is sidelined for a few weeks and Julian Köster can’t play for an indefinite period of time, according to the club website.
Gummersbach has succeded in one of three matches so far and the quest for further points will be hampered by recent events.
All in all the final quarter against Leipzig was a nightmare since both Köster and Einarsson had to leave the court.
The examination of Köster, team captain and left back shows a torn medial ligament in the knee. Gummersbach trusts that conservative treatment will solve the matter, however it still means no activity in terms of games for the 24-year-old.
– This is obviously a hard hit for us.
– Everyone knows how important Julian is to us, how much he has played for us in recent weeks and what important decisions he makes in defense and attack, says Gummersbach´s coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson to the club webpage.
Another backlash occurred when the right back Teitur Einarsson damaged his right foot. The rehab prognosis while a bit more precise, states that the Icelandic player could expect several weeks out of play.
– Teitur had just arrived and is strong both in defense and in attack. It is of course bitter that he is now out injured, but we now have to work even closer together. Now there are opportunities for the others to prove themselves and more than enough playing time for everyone, says Sigurdsson concerning the injury of the newcomer.
Gummersbach faces a busy schedule, eleven games until the end of October.
