After a surprising loss against Usam Nimes, Montpellier HB won’t challenge the two top teams in Starligue. The podium place is secured but Champions League is out of reach for the third placed team.
Despite the super shape of Hugo Monte on the left back and the right wing Benjamin Richert, Montpellier fell behind in the final 15 minutes of the away game. Ten goals from each of the top players meant that no-one else was ready to step up to the mark when Nimes entered a period of domination.
Yoann Gibelin decided the game with one minute to go to end a ten game losing streak facing Montpellier. The guests had to return home in a rather disappointed mood.
The winner of the other Tuesday match, Saint–Raphael Var took over the fourth place in the table. US Ivry allowed 38 shots to reach the net and pivot Jonathan Mapu delivered seven goals to the winning team.
HBC Nantes has to gain more points versus Chambery Savoie than Paris Saint-Germain does against Istres Wednesday evening to keep the title hope until the final match day. With PSG in a three-point lead it could be celebrations once more for the capital team.
