Suzana Lazović has been appointed as Montenegro’s next head coach. This is the first head coaching position for the former two-time Champions League winner.
– The opportunity to lead these girls makes me proud, says the 32-year-old in a press release.
The former defensive powerhouse, Lazović, was forced to retire at the age of 27 due to injuries but still boasts an impressive résumé, including two Champions League titles, an Olympic silver medal, and a gold at the 2012 European Championship.
– As a player, I reached the highest peaks with the national team, and now I have received the great trust of the Federation to lead a new generation of ‘Lionesses’ in the same way we were taught and led in the past, says the new head coach.
Lazović will make her Championship debut as a head coach during the Euros later this year, which will be held in Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland.
– We have the European Championship at the end of November, but the first goal is to give our young players an opportunity, and to ensure that everything we do is for the long term, so that handball returns to its established paths of success.
