Handball to be included in future European Games?

In a near future, there might be more medals at stake in handball. EOC, the European Olympic Committee which organises the multi-sport event European Games seems keen to bring handball into the program, according to EHF.

European Games is arranged every four years with the previous edition in Krakow, Poland 2023 and the upcoming 2027 competition in Istanbul, Turkey.

Beach handball made its debut in 2023, now the traditional indoor activity might be a part of the program during the summer championship as well.

During the latest meeting of the EHF executive committee a report of a meeting between the handball federation and the EOC was provided.

As eurohandball.com describes it, ”the EOC expressed its interest in exploring the possibility of including indoor handball in the Games”.

An attempt to get the ball rolling has been made. In terms of cooperating with EOC, handball is already a part of the youth competition EYOF (European Youth Olympic Festival) both 2025 and 2027.
