Sweden ended a four-game losing streak against Denmark with a thrilling 33–30 victory on Sunday. After trailing 13–16 at halftime, the Swedes mounted a strong second-half comeback to take down the reigning Olympic champions in Copenhagen.
The match began with Felix Claar scoring Sweden’s first four goals, keeping pace with Denmark early on. However, Denmark, despite missing several key players including Mathias Gidsel and Simon Pytlick, pulled ahead thanks to stellar goalkeeping from Emil Nielsen.
In the second half, things looked uncertain for Sweden when Claar suffered a knee injury and had to leave the game. But goalkeeper Andreas Palicka stepped up, saving four out of five penalties, while Daniel Pettersson’s fast-break goal gave Sweden the lead at 24–23.
From there, Sweden surged ahead with Eric Johansson and Jim Gottfridsson delivering in the clutch. The duo scored six of the team’s final seven goals to secure the comeback win. Though Denmark’s Lukas Jørgensen scored a last-second goal, it wasn’t enough to stop Sweden from claiming their first win over Denmark since 2022.
