Johan Hansen leaves Flensburg to return home

After five years abroad, Danish international Johan Hansen returns to the Danish League. The right wing has signed a three-year deal with Skanderborg, the club where his professional career started.

Hansen returns to Denmark with an impressive résumé. He has been a big part of both top side Flensburg and the Danish national team. With over 106 appearances for the national team, Hansen has won a total of four World championships. For Skanderborg this is a statement signing.

– To welcome a player with Hansen’s résumé is a milestone for this club. He will add both quality on the court and a strong culture off the court, says club director Mads Lind.

Head coach Rasmussen feels the signing is a keystone for next season.

– Hansen will add explosiveness on the right wing and a unique winner mentality. His experience will be important for this young team. This signing matches our ambition to be at the top of Danish handball, says Rasmussen.

For Hansen, the decision to return to Denmark was a calculated one and something he has thought long and hard about.

– I have taken a great time to look at all my opportunities both home and abroad. I kept coming back to Skanderborg because they have the best project. My big goal is to help Skanderborg take the next step.

For Skanderborg, this is a big signing and shows that they want to be part of the top of Danish handball. In the statement, a long list of partners are mentioned that helped make this signing possible and are committed to the project.
